Macro mode

July 21st, 2007 · No Comments

My camera is a Sony DSC-H5, which is called a ‘Prosumer’ camera, meaning that it blends some aspects of an upper end camera but is roughly as easy to use as a consumer model. One of the things that I have learned about it recently is that it has a Macro mode, meaning that you can take pictures of objects as close as just under 1” away and have the camera focus and grab a good picture.

On my Sony DSC-H5 Macro Mode is enabled by clicking the flower picture on the main dial.  It may be similar on yours. You should also check your camera manual to see how close you can get when taking pictures in Macro mode.

Also make sure that you disable Macro mode before grabbing normal photos or you may find that your images are out of focus.  By the way, this has never happened to me… OK, it did.  Dangit.

This opens up a whole new world of photography to me and makes even my backyard an interesting place to find mini-scenes. I hope to get some good macro pictures up on the site soon.

Click on more to see a couple of examples of taking pictures with and without Macro mode enabled.

Some text from a book I am reading about photography.  The two attempts are from different angles and depths but were pretty similar other than that.
