I want to do another $20 Amazon giveaway so here goes:
I bought 2 lenses with my camera. I have a 55-200 from Nikkor and a Tamron 17-50 lens. The 55-200 is an OK lens but the Tamron 17-50 is a great lens. I just love it. It takes very sharp pictures and has a nice focal range. It is well-built, smooth in operation and focuses well. I am glad I did not spend the extra money on the Nikkor equivalent. I bought it primarily for weddings and portraits after reading a lot of reviews and recommendations.
What is your favorite lens and why?
I will announce a winner next Friday, the 14th of December, to the best comment about this.

I like versatile lenses. My mid-range lens is a 35-80mm lens and although it is an f/4-5.6 and plastic, it still takes ok pictures. When I travel around the world, it isn’t too big to throw in my carry on along with my camera body, but yet versatile enough to get me some decent pictures. I would love, however, to get a similar lens in the f/2.8 range. I’ll just have to keep on saving.

My favorite lens right now is the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L. This is my first really wide lens and it has opened up a whole new world of photography for me. The lens is really solid and the images are nice and sharp.

My favorite lens is the Nikon AF Nikkor 70-300mm I purchased shortly after buying the Nikon D-70. Until that time I had taken a few photos with the AF-S Nikkor 18-70 mm lens that came with the camera. But I was not truly excited about photography until purchasing this lens and beginning to discover how it revealed so much from so far away. It was a magical moment for me to take photos of surfers and clearly see the water glistening on their skin and the expressions on their faces. It literally opened up a new world for me.

I just rented a Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8 this weekend.
I have to say it is my favorite lens now! The focal length is abit short, maybe cause I’m used to my 18-135mm but with a f-stop of 2.8, its very very useful in low light conditions!
I’m not sure how it compares to the tamron equivalent in terms of image quality and sharpness. But if money was no issue, I’d get the Nikkor 17-55mm 6 months ago

My preferred lens is my Sigma 50-500mm F4-6.3.
I am into bird photography and need a long lens to get many shots. I am using the Konica-minolta 5D at the moment but have my eyes on the Sony A700…john

Sorry about the delay! This time of the year is very busy and I did not get to this until this morning.
I had 2 other people judge this with me and two of us chose David’s comment, mostly because of his description of what he has been able to do with the lens. He painted a great picture.
David, I will be sending you an Amazon gift card later today.
I probably won’t be doing these much more as they haven’t quite been as successful as I hoped. Thank you very much everyone, though, for commenting.
It was a good idea, I thought.
If I can help you out in some way let me know. I owe you all one.
Matt
