Well, I thought I had the home page done by hacking through all of the HTML and trying to learn it and style sheets as I go. Not a realy smart move. Today I decided to see what it looked like in IE.
Website development tip # 1, check the most popular browser, at least occasionally, as you build your site. The site looked OK in Firefox but in IE a lot of the hacks I had done did not work out.
One of my buddies is a programmer and he told me that I needed to use ‘em’ to position the different pieces of the site on the page, instead of just using pixels. That was helpful.
There are a lot of good sites out there with CSS and HTML info but unless you know where to start sometimes it is a little hard…
Tonight I got some of the formatting to look half-decent in IE and Firefox.
I also tried to put Google Adsense on the homepage but a couple of the ads were not the type I want on the site, which I would like to be fairly family friendly so I took it off. I am changing some of the content of the homepage to hopefully make the ads that Google selects more in keeping with what I would want on the site.
Next step… write the first mini-tutorial.
