I got to the hotel at 6 am, just in time to grab some shut eye before going over to setup for the class. Unfortunately, my request for an early check-in did not work out. There are no rooms! This is a nice hotel (The Swissotel Stamford) and so they put me in a complimentary lounge with a shower and couches. But there were about 10 other people there as well so I wandered out onto the streets with my camera and shot some pictures of the city waking up.
Even at 6 am I was sweating within a few moments.
It was kind of low light and I was looking forward to trying to grab some good shots in that kind of a challenging situation but my shots were awful. They look like a cloud dropped on the street.
I was starting to get kind of ticked when I noticed a giant smudge of moisture on the lens. No shiminy Sherlock! Once that was addressed my pictures started turning out a little better.
After that I made the mistake of sitting down on a stone bench surrounding a fountain and within a few moments started feeling these stings on my legs and arms. Little red ants!
Man, I have a good feeling about this trip.
The moral of this story, if there is either a story or a moral, is that I always think that I will get my room if I ask for an early check-in and twice now I have been burned by making that assumption. Next time I am going to pay for an extra night.
