Today I had the chance to watch the sunset here in Herzilyah. It is probably the last one I will see since I am teaching the next three days. It was awesome. One of the things that makes me want to be a good photographer is that I want to be able to capture the amazing things I get to see and show them to others: my wife, my kids, my family. They never get to see them.
The other day my wife said to me that it has been kind of fun for her, getting to see places through my eyes. She doesn’t get to come with me but I get to show her what is amazing about some of these places. I get to filter it for her so that she doesn’t have to fly for 17 hours and deal with the jetlag and all of the other stuff. She just gets to see the highlights. I know it isn’t the same, and I know that I would love to have her with me every place I go, but it will have to do until I can win that million dollar prize from McDonalds. Anyone have Boardwalk? I will share Park Place with you if you have it…
Anyway, today I had one of those rare moments where things were just perfect. I got to watch a perfect sunset. It was an amazing thing, a testament to the goodness of God’s creations. Things like this don’t happen every day, but that is OK. There has to be ordinary for something to have the chance to be extraordinary.
I took this from my hotel room window. The temperature here has stayed a perfect 75 degrees or so the entire time I have been in Israel. It is awesome to be able to see such a thing from my window!
Sail boats, taken from my window.
The sun at first was throwing off a gold color and the entire sky reflected the light.
But then it changed to a very soft light as the sun descended, showing very pale blues and pinks and shades of orange.
Two fishermen were standing at the breakers, casting with their long poles. At one point the sun looked like it was right over their shoulders.
Unfortunately, my camera and my skill fail to capture exactly what I saw so you will have to accept these pale imitations until I can truly find a way to render what I see as what is captured.
At the end the sun just faded away. I never saw it ’sink’ into the water.
