Just got a new tripod from Amnova.com
It took about 2 weeks to get here. The box is large. Maybe 3’ long!
The tripod box is inside of that box. This inside box was opened and there were no instructions. That is kind of scary.
There is a bag inside of the box. The bag is a black canvas with a side pocket. It seems well-made.
Once out of the box I see that the tripod is large and heavy. Wow! This is quite a tripod! It is stable and well made. All of the connections and fittings are strong and appear heavy-duty, not the kind of connectors that will pop off if you tweak them a little.
However, it also is not one you are going to throw in a camera bag when traveling. I wonder if it will fit in my suitcase?
There is a pistol grip on the ball which allows you to easily angle the camera and a pair of levels on each side of the tripod legs and one on the camera grip itself.
It extends to about 6 ½ feet tall if I push the tall center stick all of the way up.
I didn’t take a picture of this but it also comes with some swivel leg caps so that you can get your angles just right.
This tripod would easily support a large camera with a long lens. Everything about it is solid. I would be quite confident taking it out and using it even in the winds that we get here. I will do an update on this post once I have used it more.
Don’t buy this tripod from Amnovo.com directly! It is $200 there. Buy it from Amnovo’s eBay store. I bought it and had it shipped for $65. It seems like quite a bargain. Once I have used it I will post another entry about it.
For more info about the tripod go to ebay and do a search for:
AT-858BL (which is the model number).
Be patient. Don’t bid on one that is ending soon that is over $50 or $60. Wait until you find one that is going to sell for $30 or so. That will be a great deal even with shipping. And, by the way, with the weight and size of the box, $20 is not a bad deal for shipping.
